Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
#27-277-14 with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed
$25,000,000, including modified indemnification language, to provide professional health care services for Medi-Cal
recipients enrolled in the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, for the period from January 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Contra Costa Health Plan member premiums. (No rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
On December 14, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #27-277-12 (as amended by Contract
Amendment/Extension Agreement #27-277-13) with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan Inc., for the provision of
professional health

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
care services for Medi-Cal recipients enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, for the period from January 1, 2010
through December 31, 2013.
Due to lengthy contractual negotiations between the parties, the Division was unable to complete the renewal in a
timely manner, and therefore is requesting a start date of January 1, 2014 to avoid any interruptions in services. The
Contractor agreed to continue providing services in good faith.
This Contract includes modification to the General Conditions, Paragraph 18, including (Indemnification) to mutually
indemnify both parties for any claims arising out of the performance of this Contract. Approval of Contract
#27-277-14 will allow the Contractor to continue providing services through June 30, 2014.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, Medi-Cal recipients enrolled in Kaiser Foundation Health Plan would not receive
professional health care services.
