APPOINT Nathan Johnson to the Veterans Service Organization Seat on the Workforce Development Board, with a
term expiring on June 30, 2014 as recommended by the Family and Human Services Committee.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
The Workforce Development Board was created on pursuant to the Federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and
has the responsibility for overall workforce investment policy, mandated workforce investment policy and oversight
of the One-Stop Career Center system.
Workforce Development Board membership is specified in law and includes many of the members of the Workforce
Development Advisory Panel. (45) SEATS: Business Members (23), Education Members (3), Labor (7),
Community-Based Members (3), Economic Development Members (2), One-Stop Mandated Partners, Ex-Officio
(8).
On April 14, 2014 the Family and Human Services Committee reviewed the recommendation for the appointment of

Nathan Johnson to the Veterans Service Organization seat. Mr. Johnson is currently the Director of the County
Veteran Service Department. the Committee recommended Mr. Johnson's application be forward to the Board of
Supervisors for consideration.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Workforce Development Board will not be have sufficient membership to perform their duties.
