APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Department, or designee, to execute a contract
in the amount of $59,668 from Humboldt State University to provide business consulting and business training to
local businesses for the period January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$59,668: 100% Funding by Humboldt State University. Required match of 50% Small Business Development Center
share of cost from donations and 100% of program budget County in-kind.
BACKGROUND:
The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County is receiving grant funds from Humboldt State University
Sponsored Programs Foundation to provide continued Small Business Development Center (SBDC) services to
business owners in Contra Costa County. The SBDC provides a vast array of business services including general
business consulting, training, information and referral, marketing, and financial consulting. The Small Business
Development Center maintains cooperative agreements with other service providers (e.g., colleges, universities,
economic development corporations, and local government) and

Humboldt State University is late in acknowledging and announcing grant awards.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Employment and Human Services Department will be unable to accept Humboldt State funding.
