APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Interim County Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the
amount of $500 from Center for the Study of Multicultural Children’s Literature to provide materials for Pittsburg
Library for the period April 1 through May 30, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
Center for the Study of Multicultural Children’s Literature is an organization advocating for multicultural children’s
literature which includes libraries, teachers, parents, caregivers, students, and experts in the field of children’s
literature. The $500 grant provides multicultural children’s books for libraries that serve children and their families
who are having a Dia library program (El Dia de Los Niños (Children’s Day/Book Day), with an African American
focus. Pittsburg Library will host a Dia program on April 26 that will celebrate children’s dreams during National
Poetry month and emphasize the contribution of African American poets and poetry.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Pittsburg Library will not participate in the grant.
