APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Interim County Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the
amount of $900 from East Bay Community Foundation, administered by the Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council, to
provide Spanish-English early literacy programs for the Rodeo Library pursuant to the local refinery Good Neighbor
Agreement, for the period July 1 through December 31, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No Library Fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The Rodeo Library is requesting funds from the Rodeo Municipal Advisory Council in order to provide a series of
Spanish-English storytime programs for children age three to five. The programs will engage children in literacy
activities including stories, crafts, and dramatic play. Employing a bilingual environment, children will learn early
literacy and kindergarten readiness skills. The children will also learn a love of books and reading from a young age.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the funds are not received then the Spanish-English programs will not occur.

Emphasizing Spanish-English story times centered around early literacy and kindergarten readiness through stories,

Children Ready for and Succeeding in School.
