ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21413 to cancel one (1) Supervising Fingerprint Examiner (64HB)
(represented) vacant position # 3112 at salary plan and grade VN5 1686 ($5,678 -$6,902), one (1) Criminalist II
(6DVC) (represented) position #14472 at salary plan and grade VN5 1774 ($6,195 - $7,530); to add one Deputy
Sheriff -Forensic Supervisor (6DHB)(represented) position at salary plan and grade VHX 2039 ($7,724 - $9,623) to
the Forensics Division – Crime Lab in the Office of the Sheriff's Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Savings to General Fund of $22,899, which includes an increase of $35,448 to annual pension costs.
BACKGROUND:
The Office of the Sheriff has requested to cancel one Supervising Fingerprint Examiner, one Criminalist II position
and add one Deputy Sheriff- Forensic Supervisor position. The department has determined that the proposed staffing
adjustment would benefit the overall operation of the department.
Due to upcoming changes to education accreditation requirements

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
by the American Society of Crime Lab Directors-Laboratory Advisory Board (ASCLD-LAB), a Deputy Sheriff-
Forensic Supervisor is needed to oversee the Latent Fingerprint Unit to ensure standards in the forensic discipline
are implemented appropriately. (Cost Savings)
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the lack of accreditation would impair the functionality of the Contra Costa County
Office of the Sheriff Forensics Division and negatively impact the public health and safety of the citizens of
Contra Costa County.
