HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02112014 - C.26RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE Appropriations and Revenue Adjustment No. 5043 authorizing new revenue in the amount of $60,000 in the Sheriff's Office (0255) and appropriating it for the purchase of radio and communication equipment for the expanding Automated Regional Information Exchange System (ARIES) project. FISCAL IMPACT: This action increases revenue and appropriations by $60,000, with no change in net county cost. The new revenue is funded through fees collected from subscribing agencies to ARIES. BACKGROUND: The Automated Regional Information Exchange System (ARIES) was implemented in 2003 with a system that shared the CCC Office of the Sheriff jail data with 25 law enforcement agencies in Contra Costa County. It was sponsored and paid for initially from state and federal grants the Sheriff's Office obtained for the project. Once the infrastructure was in place, the ARIES committee began implementing data sharing projects at a very rapid pace. There are currently more then 8,000 users from over 90 different agencies participating in the system. ARIES is expanding on a daily basis and more storage is required for the growing data needs. The Office of the Sheriff needs to purchase equipment including a Dell EqualLogic Storage Array which adds 20 TBs (Terra Bytes) of space which can be easily allocated as volumes of storage to any server anytime. Since it comes with a management software (HIT) it can be managed anytime from anywhere. The Office of the Sheriff believes that this storage array will best suit the growing needs of the department and will also improve service, efficiency and secure data sources. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The new revenue will not be recognized in the operating budget and will not be appropriated for use in equipment purchases. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
