HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02042014 - C.22RECOMMENDATION(S): ADOPT Resolution No. 2014/15 honoring Ben Pettersson, for receiving an Ilene Lubkin Volunteer Award in Senior Transportation as recommended by the Employment and Human Services Department. FISCAL IMPACT: None BACKGROUND: The Contra Costa County Advisory Council on Aging recognizes that transportation access to both essential services and quality of life destinations is a key component of the independence that older adults need to successfully “age in place”. Since mobility does equal independence, particularly for frail seniors, the Advisory Council on Aging in 2005 decided to sponsor two annual awards in senior transportation: the Volunteer Award and the Transportation Provider Award. Both of these awards have been named in honor of the late Ilene Lubkin, whose vision led the Advisory Council on Aging’s efforts to improve transportation for seniors in Contra Costa County. Criteria for the Ilene Lubkin Senior Transportation Volunteer Award 1. The volunteer’s efforts required an extra amount of time, energy & work 3. The volunteer’s advocacy, activities, program, contribution took place over a long period of time (versus just 1 or 2 events). 4. The community served readily recognizes results obtained. Award Recommendation The Advisory Council on Aging in reviewing nominations for the 2013 Ilene Lubkin Senior Transportation Awards Program recommends Mr. Ben Pettersson for the Volunteer in Senior Transportation Award. Ben Pettersson has been a volunteer driver since early 2012. He has transported elderly residents thereby contributing to a client’s ability to age in place, maintain greater independence and improve his/her access to essential services and shopping. Mr. Pettersson is a volunteer for the Lamorinda Spirit Van Program based in Lafayette, CA. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Mr Pettersson will not be recognized for his volunteer service.
