Schroder Supervisor., District III Costa DATES January 21 , 1986 County S U EJECT, Co-sponsoring Anita Lee Mixson's benefit recital SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDA'PIONtS) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATIONS: In the spirit:of furthering friendly relations with our Sister County, Taichung, the Board of Supervisors agree to co-sponsor along with the Coordination Council of North American Affairs, Republic of China, Anita Lee Mixson, who will sing in a benefit recital at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco on February 15, 1986 at 7:30 p.m. BACKGROUND: In 1956, Anita left Taiwan for the United States in order to pursue her musical education. She studied at the Julliard School of Music in New York and the Westminister Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, where she earned her Master of Music Degree. She was the first Chinese woman to sing as .a soloist in Carnegie Hall . Anita began teaching at Diablo Valley Community College in 1980 and later opened her own shcool , The Northern California Academy of Performing Arts. For the past five years , through the Anita Lee Mixson Studio, Inc. , she has taken her Contra Costa County students on cultural exchange tours to Taiwan where they have performed for thousands of people. Antia's recital will cover a broad range of music, from the classical art songs of Mozart to Verdi 's Opera to Broadway show tunes and a number- of selections of Chinese classical music.
