HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12032013 - C.87RECOMMENDATION(S): ADOPT Resolution No. 2013/450 accepting as complete the construction contract work performed by W.A. Thomas Co., Inc., for the construction of the New Hope House Facility (previously referred to as the Crisis Residential Facility), 300 Ilene Street, Martinez, for the Health Services Department, as recommended by the Public Works Director. DIRECT the Clerk of the Board to file with the County Recorder a certified copy of Resolution No. 2013/450 and the attached Notice of Completion no later than fifteen (15) days after adoption. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no direct fiscal impact resulting from the adoption of the Resolution of Acceptance and Notice of Completion, but the adoption and recording will limit the period for filing stop payment notices and bond claims on this contract. BACKGROUND: The Hope House Facility ("Hope House") will provide for a 24-hour residential treatment program. Such a program is a viable alternative to hospitalization. Bueren, Public Works Director/Chief Engineer Date:December 3, 2013 Contra Costa County Subject:Adopt Resolution of Acceptance and Notice of Completion for the New Hope House Facility, Martinez BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) addition, the program will provide a transitional level of care for patients leaving hospitals but needing further assistance while re-entering the community. The Hope House is a 6,600 s.f., two-story facility that includes space for 16 residents. The facility also includes a living room, a dining room, kitchen, a library, and administrative support spaces. On April 24, 2012, the County entered into a construction contract with W.A. Thomas Co., Inc. for the construction of the Hope House. The subject contract has been completed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. It is recommended that the work covered by the above contract be accepted by adopting a Resolution of Acceptance and Notice of Completion (Resolution No. 2013/450). The project acceptance includes a withhold amount of $24,500 to ensure the completion of project closeout items and for the landscape and irrigation maintenance period. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Accepting a contract as complete is standard procedure and allows for proper closeout of the contract. If the above contract is not accepted as complete, the period for filing stop payment notices and bond claims may be extended. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable. TOTAL WITHHOLD AMOUNT $24,500.00 * County will not authorize release of retention until these items are completed.
