HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12032013 - C.70RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the District Attorney, or designee, to execute a contract with The University of California Hastings College of the Law, including full indemnification of the university, in an amount not to exceed $4,000 for two (2) students to participate in the District Attorney's office summer training program during the period May 20, 2013 through December 1, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: $4,000; $2,000.00 per student for each of the two (2) law students. 100% General Fund. BACKGROUND: The District Attorney wishes to present a summer training program for students having completed their second year of law school. The office will benefit from giving prospective employees an introduction to different areas of the office, giving advanced training in the area of criminal prosecution and providing support for its employees; while the students will gain important work experience and insight into the practice of criminal prosecution. The District Attorney's office will pay a $2,000 stipend, or work-study contribution, for each of the two students for the time they spend with office. The University will contribute an additional $3,000 for each student, bringing their total stipend for this valuable work-study period to $5,000 per student at a total cost of only $4,000 for the District Attorney's office.
