APPROVE and AUTHORIZE, the County Administrator, or designee, to execute a facilities use agreement with the
Acalanes Unified School District, including modified indemnification language, in an amount not to exceed $600, for
the use of the Los Lomas High School Theater by the Arts and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County for the
Poetry Out Loud competition on February 8, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% California Arts Council Grant
BACKGROUND:
The facility will be used for the annual Poetry Out Loud competition, a high school poetry competition sponsored by
the Arts and Culture Commission of Contra Costa County.
Poetry Out Loud is an exciting National competition started in 2005 by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry
Foundation. The contest challenges high school students to memorize and recite great poetry - a chance to showcase their
talents, build self confidence, and at the same time gain both an appreciation for and an understanding of poetry.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
AC5 has been the proud sponsor of Poetry Out Loud in our county since 2007. Approval of this facility use
agreement will provide a venue for the final competition and selection of the Contra Costa County winners.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Agreement is not ratified, the County will not be able to use the facility.
