HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11052013 - C.59RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, or designee, to execute, on behalf of the County Librarian, a purchase order with Dell Computers in an amount not to exceed $210,000 for replacement of computer systems for the period November 15, 2013 through June 30, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: The funds are in the Library's 2013/14 budget. BACKGROUND: The Library maintains over 580 computers through its 26 community locations, with 227 computers that are six and seven years old, far exceeding their lifetime recycle schedule. In order to support community library service needs and expectations of providing free computer access to the Internet and other software, and to upgrade to the Windows 7 operating system and the Internet Explorer 10 web browser to improve the performance of web technology and quality of web typography, the Library will purchase 227 new computers to replace the aging hardware and software. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The Library's access to web applications and newer technology to support user expectations will continue to be diminished.
