HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11052013 - C.31RECOMMENDATION(S):
ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21378 to add two (2) Criminalist I (6DWB) (represented) positions at
salary plan and grade VN5 1688 ($5,523 - $6,090) and cancel two (2) Fingerprint Examiner II (64VG) (represented)
vacant positions #2860 and #6464 at salary plan and grade VN5 1578 ($4,953 - $6,021) in the Office of the
Sheriff-Forensics Services Division.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Increased annual cost of $2,462.00, of which $600 is retirement costs. 100% General Fund
BACKGROUND:
Forensic standards will soon mandate any individual offering scientific opinions in court must be scientifically
trained and minimally hold a Bachelor’s degree in science. The change from the Fingerprint Examiner job
classification to the Criminalist job classification will ensure the Office of the Sheriff will meet these mandates. This
will permit better operational flexibility across the various technical units within the Forensic Services Division.

Subject:Cancel Two Fingerprint Examiner II (64VG) Positions 2860 and 6464; Add Two Criminalist I (6DWB) Positions to
the Forensics Division – Crime Lab
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Existing staffing is unable to keep up with the volume of fingerprint casework submitted to the lab. Filling the
positions with Criminalists will help the lab provide better service to our public safety partners. Failure to do so
will directly impact our ability to provide timely case lab work, thus impacting public safety.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
No impact.
