ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21355 to establish the classification of Chief Nursing Informatics
Officer (VWDH) (represented); allocate it to the salary schedule at salary plan and grade ZB5 2177 ($8,969 –
$10,902); and add one (1) position in the Health Services Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of approximately $205,410, including pension costs of
$46,434, and will be funded by third party patient revenues. (CCHP member premiums)
BACKGROUND:
The institution of Healthcare Reform through the Affordable Care Act has required Contra Costa Health Services to
change and improve the way we deliver healthcare to the residents of Contra Costa County. The desired outcome of
these changes is to ensure effective high level patient care that will result in a healthier population. The Department is
requesting to establish

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
the classification of Chief of Nursing Informatics in an effort to achieve and sustain this goal. The Chief Nursing
Informatics Officer works in close partnership with key personnel designated to manage and oversee Medical and
Clinical Informatics to ensure clinical multidisciplinary leadership of all health Information Technology (HIT)
projects and maintenance of HIT systems as well as to establish short and long term goals.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this classification is not established there will be no one to oversee and maintain this critical piece that is
needed to complete the massive overhaul of our healthcare delivery system.
