RAINEY, Sheriff-Coroner Contra Costa DATE: December 19, 1985 County SUBJECT: Application to State of California for Financial Aid for Sheriff's Marine Patrol SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION RECOMMENDATION: Authorize the Sheriff-Coroner, or his designee to submit, on behalf of the County of Contra Costa, an application to the State of California - Department of Boating and Waterways, an application requesting financial aid. for Boating Safety and Enforcement programs on waters under his jurisdiction, during fiscal 1986-87. BACKGROUND: Pursuant to Section 663.7 of the Harbors and Navigation Code, the State of California Department of Boating and Waterways provides financial aid to counties, cities, and special districts, for boating safety and enforcement programs on County waterways. The amount of financial aid local governmental entities are entitled to receive is based upon a qualifying formula consisting of the extent of water use, local share (Boat Property Taxes and inspection fees) , and State appropriations limits. It is the intent of the Sheriff-Coroner to maximize State funds to supplement County appropriations for Boating Safety and Enforcement programs on County waterways. FINANCIAL IMPACT; The County 1985-86 Final Budget provided for participation in this program by committing boat taxes to the program thereby realizing a State grant amount of approximately $176,000.00 .
