Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Contract
#26-687-3 with Ralph Chase, M.D., a self-employed individual, in an amount not to exceed $1,200,000, to provide
professional anesthesiology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers
(CCRMC) for the period from October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2016.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. Cost to the County depends upon utilization. As appropriate,
patient and/or third party payors will be billed for services. (No rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
On October 4, 2011, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-687-1 (as amended by Amendment Agreement
#26-687-2) with Ralph Chase, M.D., for the provision of professional anesthesiology services, including, but not
limited to, consultation, training, medical procedures, and on-call coverage for the General and Obstetric Units at
CCRMC, for the period from October

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

Approval of Contract #26-687-3 will allow Contractor to continue providing professional anesthesiology services
through September 30, 2016.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, patients requiring professional anesthesiology services at CCRMC will not have
access to Contractor’s services, which may result in a reduction in the overall level of services to the community.
