HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 10012013 - C.35RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase Order with Professional Hospital Supply, Inc. in the amount of $27,000,000 for medical supplies and equipment and custodial supplies as well as daily cart exchanges for Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) and Contra Costa Health Centers for the period from October 1, 2013 through September 30, 2016. FISCAL IMPACT: 100% funding is included in the Enterprise Fund I Budget. BACKGROUND: Professional Hospital Supply (PHS) has been CCRMC’s primary supplier of disposable and non disposable medical supplies and equipment since 1997. CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers use a tremendous variety of products every day and being able to obtain them is critical for patient care. PHS also provides daily cart exchanges. Multiple carts are located on every floor of CCRMC and at all the clinics. Every evening PHS removes the depleted carts and replaces them with restocked ones. This cycle is repeated 7 days a week, 365 days a year. PHS is also a member of Novation, the group purchasing organization (GPO) to which the hospital belongs. GPOs combine the volumes of multiple member healthcare organizations and use that volume to leverage the highest possible discounts from suppliers. By purchasing from Novation vendors CCRMC is assured of receiving the best pricing available. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this purchase order is not approved, necessary medical supplies and equipment would not be available for patients requiring medical services at CCRMC and Contra Costa Health Centers.
