Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Unpaid
Student Training Agreement #22-552-5 with Samuel Merritt University, an educational institution and California
corporation, to provide supervised field instruction in County’s Public Health Division for Contractor’s nursing,
occupational or physical therapy field students, for the period from April 1, 2013 through March 31, 2016.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience
for students is considered to be an integral part of both educational and professional preparation. The Health Services
Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, benefitting from the students’ services to
patients.
On April 20, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #22-552-4 with Samuel Merritt University, for the
period from April 1, 2010 through March 21, 2013 for

Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-552-5 will allow Samuel Merritt University students to receive

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, the students will not receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience in County’s
Public Health Division.
