Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Unpaid
Student Training Agreement #26-119-10 with San Jose State University, an educational institution, to provide field
instruction in the Health Services Department for Contractor’s dietitian, occupational therapy and speech pathology
students, for the period from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2015.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this agreement is to provide Contractor’s students with the opportunity to integrate academic
knowledge with applied skills at progressively higher levels of performance and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork
experience for students is considered to be an integral part of both the educational and professional preparation. The
Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education, while at the same time, taking advantage of the
students’ services to patients.
On June 22, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-119-8

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
(as amended by Contract Amendment Agreement #26-119-9) with San Jose State University, to provide field
instruction for the period from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2013.
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-119-10 will continue provision of supervised clinical
experience for San Jose State University students, through June 30, 2015.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, the students will not receive supervised fieldwork instruction experience at Contra
Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers.
