APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Employment & Human Services Director, to
amend and extend a Blanket Purchase Order with Spike's Produce (#43597), to increase the payment limit by
$70,000 to new limit not to exceed $170,000 to purchase fresh produce, and to extend the term August 1, 2012
through July 31, 2013 to new term end of December 31, 2013 .

BACKGROUND:
The Department utilizes this company to furnish fresh produce to provide daily food service to the 19 childcare
centers operated by the Department.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If not approved, County will not be able to make necessary purchases to operate the childcare centers.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa
County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families
that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These
outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
