HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08132013 - C.05RECOMMENDATION(S): ADOPT Resolution No. 2013/338 of Local Support to submit an application for Regional Safe Routes to School (SR2S) funds for the Port Chicago Highway/Willow Pass Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project, Bay Point area. (District V) FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact. If applications are selected for funding, the County may be granted $440,000 for bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Receiving grant funds will augment County Road funds to allow improvements to be installed. BACKGROUND: The purpose of the Regional SR2S program is to fund infrastructure improvements that will increase safety for school children on their route to school as well as to encourage walking and biking as a healthy alternative that can help reduce childhood obesity. Bueren, Public Works Director/Chief Engineer Date:August 13, 2013 Contra Costa County Subject:Resolution of Local Support for Regional Safe Routes to School funds for Port Chicago Highway/Willow Pass Road Bike & Ped Improvement Project BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) Project Description The Port Chicago Highway/Willow Pass Road Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Project includes the installation of a bike lane, sidewalk, curb and gutter, curb ramps, and pedestrian actuated flashers to increase safety for pedestrians and improve access to schools, trails and transit in a Community of Concern. The project will install improvements along a 1,400 foot stretch of roadway located west of the Bay Point BART station and east of three public schools where Port Chicago Highway intersects Willow Pass Road. The project will improve access to the Delta De Anza Trail providing proximate access to the adjacent Priority Development Area along Bailey Road. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: A negative action will eliminate a potential funding opportunity and delay implementation of improvements. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
