Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee, to accept on behalf of the County, Grant Award
#28-848 (#20132341) from Kaiser Foundation Hospital Fund for Community Benefit Programs, East Bay, to pay the
County an amount not to exceed $43,483, for the Advancing Safe Routes to School Project, for the period from June
1, 2013 through June 1, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Acceptance of this Grant Award will result in an amount not to exceed $43,483 from Kaiser Foundation Hospital
Fund for Community Benefit Programs at the East Bay Community Foundation. No County match required.
BACKGROUND:
The Kaiser Foundation Hospital Fund for Community Benefit Programs, East Bay Community Foundation has
granted Contra Costa County’s Community Wellness and Prevention Program funds to support the Advancing Safe
Routes to School Project. The goal of the project is to gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data, on safe
routes to school to inform and advance

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
existing County programs; to prepare for program expansions; to implement programs that increase walking and
biking rates around schools; to develop skills of high school students to assess neighborhood conditions for
walking/biking; and be an advocate for improvements in their neighborhood.
Approval of this Grant Agreement #28-848 will allow the County to implement the Advancing Safe Routes to School
Project for Contra Costa County youth through June 1, 2014.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this grant is not approved, the County will not receive funding to support the activities for the Advancing Safer
Routes to School Project.
