BACKGROUND: The Economic Opportunity Council is the federally designated Community Action Program tri-partite oversight council in Contra Costa County. It is charged with the mission of working jointly with the Community Services Bureau in developing a Community Action Plan that guides the use of Community Services Block Grant Funds. The members of the EOC review, study and hear presentations from members of the community to assist them in studying the root causes of poverty in the county. They use this information to develop funding strategies to address these root causes. One of their primary strategies is to seek out partnerships with other community organizations that are also pursuing long-range strategies for low-income people. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The District IV seat on the committee would remain vacant. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: None.
