HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07162013 - C.44RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or Mary Jane Robb, Sheriff’s Chief of Management Services, as designee, to apply for and accept a California Department of Boating and Waterways Vessel Trade-In Program Grant in an amount not to exceed $8,000 for the acquisition of derelict vessels before they are abandoned on County waterways for the period August 1, 2013 through July 31, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: $8,000 revenue; 10% County match (budgeted). BACKGROUND: The California Department of Boating and Waterways (DBW) is prepared to award a Vessel Turn-In Program (VTIP) grant to the Office of the Sheriff to assist the Sheriff’s Marine Patrol with the acquisition of derelict vessels before they are abandoned. The funding provided by this grant will enable the Marine Patrol to accept and dispose of derelict vessels in a continued effort to protect life and property on the waterways within Contra Costa County. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Negative action on this request will result in the loss of State funding designed to significantly increase the safety and security of persons and property on the waterways within Contra Costa County.
