HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07162013 - C.40RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, on behalf of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County to accept funding from Senior Service Of America, Inc. as a recipient of U. S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration Division of Older Workers Programs funding to provide low income adults paid community service and training in an amount not to exceed $602,705 for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive up to $602,705, U. S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration Division of Older Worker Program funding. 100% Federal. Required non-federal match $69,432. BACKGROUND: Senior Service America, Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration Division of Older Worker Programs funding supports low income older workers to obtain and maintain full time employment. Training slots are developed in non-profit and governmental organizations to assist older workers to learn new skills and upgrade existing skills. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration Division of Older Workers Programs Funding BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) employment is the goal of the program resulting in increased opportunities for self sufficiency for the targeted senior population. Statistics indicate that employment keeps individuals connected to their community and is a major contributing factor in ensuring better overall health and self esteem. The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa continues to seek opportunities to expand services to this population. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without funding, proposed services to be provided with the grant funding will not be provided to low income older adults. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
