APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Department Director, or designee, to execute a
contract to accept funding from the California Department of Education in an amount not to exceed $6,676,978 to
support State preschool programs for the term July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014.
FISCAL IMPACT:
County to receive up to $6,676,978: State 76.3% ($5,091,384); Federal 23.7% ($1,585,594) No County match.
CFDA #s 93.596 ($1,022,511) and 93.575 ($563,083).

BACKGROUND:
The California Department of Education notified the Department on June 20, 2013 of the 2013-14 funding allocation
of the California State Preschool program services. Approval of this revenue contract will provide support funds for
the State preschool services to program eligible children and families.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If not approved, County will not receive funding to operate these childcare programs.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment and Human Services Department, Community Services Bureau supports three of the community
outcomes established in the Children's Report Card: 1) "Children Ready for and Succeeding in School"; 3) "Families
that are Economically Self-sufficient"; and, 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing" by offering
comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to
low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
