HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06252013 - C.80RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the District Attorney, or designee, to execute a contract with Zelis Consultants, LLC in an amount not to exceed $168,960 to provide specialized legal expertise, working with the personnel at the Children's Interview Center, to interview victims and witnesses of crimes for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: This cost was funded at fifty percent (50%) for fiscal year 13/14. The remaining cost will be offset by savings from departmental vacancies. BACKGROUND: Established in January 1998, the Children's Interview Center (CIC) was designed to provide a child-friendly place where children who allege sexual abuse have an opportunity to tell their story. A unique team approach is utilized so that all of the professionals who need to be involved are present for the interview at one time. The CIC was established with the goal of reducing the trauma suffered by a child telling his or her story. This is accomplished by minimizing the number of interviews as well as the number of interactions the child has with different adults. The District Attorney's office must provide an attorney with specialized expertise in assisting with interviews of chiildren and disabled adults who are victims of specific types of crimes. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The contract will not be approved and services will not be provided.
