HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06252013 - C.66RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to accept, on behalf of the County, Grant Award #28-844 (#1C12CS25580-01-00) from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $500,000 for County’s Affordable Care Act Grants for School-Based Health Centers Capital Program, for the period from December 1, 2012 through November 30, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: Acceptance of this Grant Award will result in an amount not to exceed $500,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for County’s Affordable Care Act Grants for School-Based Health Centers Capital Program. (County match not required) BACKGROUND: Contra Costa County’s Public Health Clinic Services (PHCS) currently provides preventative and primary care health services at 23 local elementary and high schools. One of these school-based health clinics (SBHC) is located at Kennedy High School in Richmond, CA. The renovation will include two exam rooms, a nursing room, a health education counseling room, bathroom, lab room, and a registration and waiting area. Upon completion of the project, Contra Costa Health Services will operate up to 20 hours/week at Kennedy High School, thereby expanding access to health care services among Kennedy High School students and elementary school students co-located on the high school campus. Approval of the Grant Award #28-844 will allow County to accept the funds from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, for West Contra Costa Unified School District to renovate and upgrade rooms at Kennedy High School, to enhance the quality of care delivered to students by Contra Costa Health Services, through November 30, 2014. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this award is not approved, the County will be unable to accept the funds which will permit the West Contra Costa Unified School District to renovate unused rooms into a stationary health clinic for high school and elementary school students.
