HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01071986 - X.3 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: ANTHONY DEHAESUS, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DATE: ' JANUARY 6, 1986 SUBJECT: SENATE BILL 878 (BOATWRIGHT) Specific Request(s) or Recommendation(s) b Background b Justification RECOMMENDATION Support Senate Bill 878 (Boatwright) in its present form, with some reservations, and request that all members of the Senate Transportation Committee support this bill at the Committee' s hearing on January 14, 1986. Authorize the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors to sign the attached letter to Senator John Foran, Chairman, State Transportation Committee, expressing Contra Costa County' s support for Senate Bill 878 (Boatwright) . FINANCIAL IMPACT None REASONS FOR RECOMMENDATION/BACKGROUND Senate Bill 878 (Boatwright) would provide for: 1. The cities, County, and transit agencies to develop a countywide transportation expen- diture plan. 2. Designation of a County Transportation Authority to administer the implementation of the expenditure plan. 3. A retail transactions and use tax (sales) may be imposed to finance the expenditure plan if a majority of the electors voting on the measure vote to approve its imposition at an election. A sales tax increase of 1/2 cent would provide approximately $30 million a year for transportation needs. Continued on attachment: X yes Signatur .
