HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06042013 - C.39RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Public Works Director, or designee, to accept a grant in an amount not to exceed $1,199,067 and execute a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Grant Program (“GGRGP”) funding agreement with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District ("Air District") for facility improvements at 151 Linus Pauling Drive, Hercules. FISCAL IMPACT: The project will be funded 97% by GGRGP funds ($1,199,067) and 3% County matching funds ($35,186). The required matching funds will come from the Employment and Human Services Department (“EHSD”) budget. EHSD is the occupant of 151 Linus Pauling. Additionally, the County will receive an estimated $166,527 spread over 5 years, which will cover costs associated with the project. In a letter dated April 15, 2013, the Air District notified the County of its grant award for improvements at 151 Linus Pauling. The proposed improvements at 151 Linus Pauling include the upgrade of fluorescent light fixtures, lamps, and ballasts, and construction of a solar system. These improvements are in-line with the goals of the GGRGP. The proposed improvements at 151 Linus Pauling will decrease the energy bill by approximately 75%. Based on the latest 12 months electric billing, the savings amount to approximately $60,000 per year. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If the funding agreement is not approved, the County will not receive the $1,199,067 grant and therefore, the improvements will not be completed or will need to be funded with County funds.
