APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with
California Department of Social Services to reimburse the County for interim assistance payments made to
individuals while the applications to Supplemental Security Income (SSI)/ State Supplementary Payment (SSP)
program(s) are reviewed, for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2018.
FISCAL IMPACT:
County will be reimbursed by the California Department of Social Services for the Interim Assistance payments to
applicants for Supplemental Security Income (Federal) and State Supplementary Payment (State). No County match.
BACKGROUND:
Some County General Assistance applicants may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income. The County provides
financial support to these individuals while an application is made and reviewed for Supplemental Security Income.
California Department of Social Services will reimburse the County for assistance payments made to individuals
during the months their Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Payment (SSI/SSP) applications are pending and during the months their SSI/SSP benefits have been suspended or
terminated. If the individuals are subsequently found to be eligible for SSI/SSP payment of benefits for those months,
full reimbursement will be made to County through Interim Assistance reimbursement.
No limit has been established on the reimbursement amount of funds available to County for Interim Assistance
reimbursement.
This contract allows those payments to be made to the County without any limitation on the number of applications,
payment limits on the individual claims or total amount reimbursed.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Reimbursement would not be made to County from State and Federal funding for interim payments made to
applicants for SSI and SSP benefits.
