HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04232013 - C.30RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHRORIZE the Health Services Director, or his designee, to accept on behalf of the County, Grant Award #20-1014-5 (38-583-16) from Employment & Human Services Department, Community Services Bureau, for Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Program funding, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $24,000, to operate the Calli House Youth Shelter in Richmond, including the purchase of incentives, for the period from January 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: Federal funds committed to the operation of the shelter will be used to fulfill the 50% match requirement. Up to $5,000 of these funds is to be used to purchase gift cards in denominations of $10, $20, and $25 to support the clothing and supply needs of the youth who access services. Gift cards provide the most flexibility in meeting the clothing needs of young men and women who often wear larger sizes that are not readily available on-site. No County match required. This program has provided outreach, short-term shelter, goal-oriented counseling, educational and vocational opportunities to homeless and street youth, ages 14-21, in West County since April 2002. Since that time, Calli House has served over 750 unduplicated youth in its shelter and day center. Approval of this Grant Agreement #20-1014-5 will allow the County to receive CSBG funds for the operating support of Calli House in Richmond through December 31, 2013. Included in this amount is $5,000 for the purchase of gift cards in demoninations of $10, $20, and $25 as incentives to support clothing and supply needs of yourth. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this contract is not approved, the County will not receive funds for the operating support of Calli House in Richmond. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: NOT APPLICABLE
