HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04232013 - C.28RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the District Attorney, or designee, to execute a contract, and any extensions or amendments thereof pursuant to state guidelines, with the State Victim Witness Compensation and Government Claims Board in an amount not to exceed $154,296 to fund a Victim Witness Assistance Program Specialist position for the period July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016. FISCAL IMPACT: The District Attorney will receive $51,432 per year for a total of $154,296 in revenue over three years. 100% State funded, budgeted in fiscal year 2013/14. BACKGROUND: The Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board (Board) administers the State's Victim Compensation Program (VCP), which reimburses victims of violent crimes for specific economic losses incurred as a result of crime. Statute requires the Court to impose restitution on behalf of the Board when an offender is convicted and the victim has received benefits from the VCP. If the victim's losses are unknown at the time of sentencing, statue requires that the restitution order include a provision that the amount will be determined at the direction of the court. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The District Attorney will not be able to execute the contract and benefit from the state funding to implement victim witness services.
