Subject:Reclassify six (6) Community Health Worker-II,one (1) Clerk-Senior Level, and one (1) Cardiology Tech-II to the
classification of Medical Interpreter
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
It is critical for patients with language barriers to have ready access to competent and professional medical
interpretation services which is directly correlated to patient safety as well as ensuring that these patients/clients
are being providing high quality health care. The Health Care Interpreter Network unit was established to meet
those needs and has been staffed with several different classifications varying from Community Health Worker to
Cardiology Technician. The Medical Interpreter classification was established in October 2012 (Board Resolution
#21072) with the intent of staffing the unit with individuals in a single more appropriate classification. The
positions and incumbents associated with this action have been acting in the capacity of Medical Interpreter and
should be reclassified as such.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
It this action is not approved, the positions and incumbents performing Medical Interpreter duties will not be
appropriately compensated and classified.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
NO IMPACT.
