PRESENTATION to introduce BART District 7 Board Director Zakhary Mallett.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact to the County.
BACKGROUND:
BART District 7 Board Director, Mr. Zakhary Mallett, was first elected to represent the residents of BART’s Seventh
District during the November, 2012 General Election.
A Bay Area native, Director Mallett took a quite-fascination in transit at a young age. As a youth, in his day-to-day
experiences on transit, he curiously wondered why it (transit) worked in some places and not in others. Since this
curiosity was spawned, Mallett has passionately sought out the answer and advocated for transit investments that
allow transit to be a viable and competitive alternative to driving. To this end, before being elected to the BART
Board, Mallett participated civically in several transportation study initiatives as a transit advocate for more than ten
years.
Consistent with his passion, Director Mallett is a City/Transportation

Planner by profession who applies a regional and rational approach towards planning (both technical terms).
Director Mallett earned his Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies from Stanford University and has a Master of City
Planning (MCP) degree with a Transportation Planning emphasis from the University of California, Berkeley.
Director Mallett resides in El Sobrante.
