BACKGROUND: BART District 7 Board Director, Mr. Zakhary Mallett, was first elected to represent the residents of BART’s Seventh District during the November, 2012 General Election. A Bay Area native, Director Mallett took a quite-fascination in transit at a young age. As a youth, in his day-to-day experiences on transit, he curiously wondered why it (transit) worked in some places and not in others. Since this curiosity was spawned, Mallett has passionately sought out the answer and advocated for transit investments that allow transit to be a viable and competitive alternative to driving. To this end, before being elected to the BART Board, Mallett participated civically in several transportation study initiatives as a transit advocate for more than ten years.
