FISCAL IMPACT: This program will be funded 100% from the Countywide Gang & Drug Trust. BACKGROUND: The District Attorney received approval to use previously collected “Drug Forfeiture” monies to support a program to assist in preventing drug abuse, and diverting gang activity. The plan involves a Deputy District Attorney and law enforcement personnel educating students about drugs and gangs, using educational programs which have been proven to be effective in other jurisdictions. An additional component of the program will be an effort to reduce truancy as it often leads to drug and gang activity. Part of that effort to reduce truancy involves the use of the AT&T location information service to track truants via their cell phones.
