Adopt Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21265 to add two (2) Physical Therapist I (V5VE) positions at salary level
QT5 1651 ($5,328.44 - $6,476.76) and one (1) Occupational Therapist I (V5VG) position at salary level QT5 1651
($5,328.44 - $6,476.76) in the Health Services Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of approximately $382,152, including pension costs of
$82,772, and will be offset by money saved from reducing the use contracted agency staff.
BACKGROUND:
The demand for rehabilitation services has increased over the past couple of years, which requires additional
permanent physical and occupational therapy staff. To meet this need, the department has utilized per diem staff that
has annual hour limitations, as well as, contracted agency staff that have high hourly rates. Since the increased needs
have been consistent and demonstrate an ongoing need, the Health Services Department is requesting to add two
Physical Therapist I positions and one Occupational Therapist position.

Subject:Add Three Positions for Rehabilitation Services in the Health Services Department
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The physical therapist positions will be responsible for administering and observing patient treatments such as
neuromuscular facilitation and reeducation, assistive orthotic and prosthetic device fabrication fitting and training,
temporary splinting and gait training, bracing soft and bony tissue mobilization, manual and mechanical traction,
hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, thermal therapy and massage, transcutaneous neuromuscular and electrical
stimulation. The occupational therapist position will be responsible for implementing treatments such as self-care,
functional mobility, topographic orientation, joint motion and muscle function, adaptive/assistive equipment and
splints, home management skills, visual-perceptual abilities, motor and sensory/motor development, and
functional cognition.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the Rehabilitation Department will exhaust the maximum hours of per diem staff,
resulting in the use of high cost contracted agency staff.
