FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive up to $30,000 from the Contra Costa Economic Partnership through the U. S. Department of Energy, Rooftop Solar Challenge grant. (100% Federal) (No County match). BACKGROUND: The Contra Costa Economic Partnership (CCEP) was awarded funding through th U. S. Department of Energy Rooftop Solar Challenge grant, a national program to encourage cities and counties to compete to streamline and digitize solar permitting. Department of Energy funding BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) (WDB) will utilize the grant funding from CCEP to encourage local jurisdictions to standardize permit requirements, and continue to develop and promote policies that support sustainable and efficient energy sources which will foster increased demand for the rapidly growing solar industry and create jobs for County residents. EHSD WDB will develop and provide training and execute training events to support the implementation of streamline permitting processes for small scale residential and commercial solar photovoltaic projects. The focus of the grant is to remove market barriers through streamlined permitting and interconnection processes. As the solar energy industry grows and flourishes, so to will the demand for services and the creation of jobs. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without funding the Employment and Human Services, Department, Workforce Development Board, would not deliver services to be funded through the Contra Costa Economic Partnership, Department of Energy, Rooftop Solar Challenge grant.
