FISCAL IMPACT: Upon approval, this action will result in an annual cost of approximately $83,356, including pension costs of $13,786, and will be funded with Contra Costa Health Plan member premiums. BACKGROUND: Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP) is experiencing an increase in members, which has resulted in a need for an additional clerical position in the Business and Claims unit. This unit is responsible for paying, adjusting, and auditing medical claims for CCHP and is under strict State Medi-cal and Federal Medicare guidelines for processing claim payments timely. Payments made after 30 and 45 days of receipt incur interest, and penalty fees are imposed on incorrect payments. To ensure that this unit is able to process the increasing number of claims and minimize penalty fees, the department is requesting to add one Clerk-Experienced Level position to assist with clerical duties within the unit.
