ATTESTED: March 12, 2013 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: June McHuen, Deputy cc: Nicole Lewis-Bolton, Roxana Mendoza, Jo-Anne Linares C.36 To:Board of Supervisors From:William Walker, M.D. Date:March 12, 2013 Contra Costa County Subject:Establish the class of Chief Nursing Officer-Exempt, Add one permanent full-time position and Cancel vacant pos #13890 in the Health Services Dept BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) The Chief Nursing Officer - Exempt classification was originally established in 1984; revised & retitled in 2005; and later retitled again in 2009 as a result of a change in the organizational structure of Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers. At that time, the Chief Operations Officer of CCRMC held the dual role of Chief Nursing Officer. However, in 2010, the Department was notified that per Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations (CCR) regulating the Community Care Licensing Division, it is a requirement as a public hospital to have a designated Chief Nursing Officer position. For the past two years, the Director of Inpatient Nursing Services has been assuming the role and responsibilities of the Chief Nursing Officer. In order for the Department to be in compliance with CCR Title 22 and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) standards, we need to re-establish a dedicated Chief Nursing Officer position. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this action is not approved, the Department will not be in compliance with CCR Title 22 regulations and JCAHO's accreditation standards. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not impact. ATTACHMENTS P-300 #21155
