HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02262013 - C.55RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Librarian or designee, to execute a contract with the City of Pleasant Hill, including modified indemnification language, in an amount not to exceed $1,600 for rental of Pleasant Hill Park and Teen Center to host the Library's 100th Birthday celebration on July 21, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of the event may not exceed $1,600 which is included in the Library's 2012-2013 budget. Every attempt will be made to elicit sponsorship for the event to offset costs. BACKGROUND: July 21, 2013 marks the 100th Birthday of the Contra Costa County Library. To celebrate this event, the Library is renting the Park and Teen Center located at 147 Gregory Lane, Pleasant Hill. The 100th Birthday celebration will feature events, music, and much more, and is open to and being advertised to all residents of the County. The Library will not be providing refreshments of any kind at this event. "USER agrees to indemnify, hold harmless and defend the CITY, its officers, officials, agents and employees, contractors and volunteers, against any and all claims for damages, including claims for liability or judgment for any injury to or death of any person or damage to property whatsoever, caused by, created by, or in any way connected with the performance of the Event by the USER, other than claims arising from the sole negligence or willful misconduct of CITY." CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If the contract is not approved then the Library will not have a sufficiently large venue to host the 100th Birthday event. The event will have to be cancelled. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: None.
