FISCAL IMPACT: None 100% private grant funding No County match BACKGROUND: The Ezra Jack Keats Foundation was incorporated in 1964 and in 1983, the Foundation was directed to use the royalties from his books to support programs helpful to humanity. The Foundation designs and implements programs to support educators in their efforts to foster literacy and a love of learning. These programs are extended to schools, libraries, universities, museums theaters, music schools and other organizations. If awarded, the grants will be used at 16 County childcare centers and 1 home educator program to supplement literacy programs currently in operation. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If not approved, Department will not receive potential funding to supplement literacy programs. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
