HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 02052013 - C.35RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to execute, on behalf of the County, Grant Award Agreement #28-842 from the Concord Community Economic Development Organization, a non-profit corporation, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $34,238, for the County’s Public Health Monument Community, Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Project, for the period from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: Approval of this Grant Award Agreement will result in an amount not to exceed $16,238 for the first year and $18,000 for the second year of this two (2) year Grant Award, for the Monument Community HEAL Project. No County funds are required. BACKGROUND: Lower income residents of the monument corridor neighborhood suffer disproportionately from obesity related diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke. In addition, residents of Concord have higher rates of bicycle injuries than other cities their size in California. This initiative builds on the earlier effort and involves a new partnership with Healthy and Active Before 5. Approval of the Grant Award Agreement #28-842 will support County’s Public Health Monument Community Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) Project, to enhance physical activity in community settings through June 30, 2014, including mutual indemnification to hold harmless both parties for any claims arising out of the performance of this Contract. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If this Agreement is not approved, the County’s Public Health Division will not receive funding to support its Monument Community Heal Project to enhance physical activity and awareness in community settings.
