ATTESTED: December 11, 2012 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: Stacey M. Boyd, Deputy cc: C. 8 To:Board of Supervisors From:Julia R. Bueren, Public Works Date:December 11, 2012 Contra Costa County Subject:APPROVE and AUTHORIZE allocation from MTC and LTP for Canal Road Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) in Communities of Concern. The goal of the SR2S program funds concept is to increase the number of children who walk or bicycle to school by funding projects that remove the barriers that currently prevent them from doing so. The Canal Road Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project will construct sidewalk and bicycle improvements on Canal Road from Bailey Road to Loftus Road. This project was identified in the “Community Based Transportation Plan for Bay Point, January 2007” and within the “Pittsburg/Bay Point Bart Access Plan”. The project will serve a community within Bay Point where approximately 50% of the households are identified as low income. The Board approved a resolution of support for the LTP grant program back in July, 2012; however, MTC requires a resolution specific to CMAQ funding before approving the amendment to include the project on to the Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP). CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to approve the request for allocation will eliminate this potential funding source for the project. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
