HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09301986 - 1.8 1� THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CAI;IFORNIA Adopted this Order on September 30, 1986 , by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fanden, Schroder, McPeak,, Torlakson, Powers NOES: None ABSENT: None ABST'AI'N: None -------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBJECT: Domestic Violence Awareness Week WHEREAS domestic violence has been recognized as a crime by the Attorney General of the State of California; and WHEREAS domestic violence is one of the largest contributors to violent crime committed in California; and WHEREAS the tragedy of domestic violence extends far beyond the lives of the immediate victims to the lives of children; and WHEREAS domestic violence is a major social problem which occurs among all ages, races, cultures, occupations, levels of edu- cation and socio-economic backgrounds; and WHEREAS Contra Costa County's Domestic Violence Workers, often on volunteer time, annually assist and counsel approximately 12,000 victims and their children; and WHEREAS services such as shelters for battered women and their families, child protective services, and counseling centers for abusing families have been established in this County; and WHEREAS Battered Women' s Alternatives joins with other concerned citizens in our community to recognize and assist those who are victimized and declare our unity with law enforcement and other agencies in eliminating the problem of domestic violence; THEREFORE IT IS BY THE BOARD ORDERED that the week of October 5 to 11 , 1986 is PROCLAIMED as Domestic Violence Awareness Week in Contra Costa County. cc: Battered Women's Alternatives P .O.
