HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11132012 - C.39RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of Health Services Department, to execute a change to
Purchase Order with Abbott Laboratories, to add $75,000 to a new total amount of $495,000, for laboratory testing
equipment and reagents for the Public Health (PH) Laboratory, with no change in the term for the period from
January 23, 2012 through December 23, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
Abbott Laboratories has provided the Abbott Architect instrument to test for HIV antibodies for the past year, which
is the most sensitive test available to date. This change to Purchase Order with Abbott Laboratories will allow the PH
Laboratory to utilize this equipment and related reagents to conduct all of their Hepatitis serology tests. This will
result in the termination of the blanket purchase order with Johnson & Johnson, the current vendor who has provided
both the testing equipment and reagents. This change is cost neutral. Additionally, the PH Lab conducts this testing
for Sonoma and Marin counties.

Subject:Approval of Purchase Order with Abbott Laboratories
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this Purchase Order is not approved, the PH Laboratory would not have the most sensitive testing equipment as the
Johnson & Johnson equipment is older and outdated and not as efficient to use which results in more down time and
are less reliable to operate.
