HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11132012 - C.32RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $1,000
from the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation to purchase children’s books for the period December 1, 2012 through
June 30, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
The mission of the Pleasant Hill Community Foundation is to strengthen community organizations. Every fall since
2001, the Foundation gives grants to youth-serving organizations from the proceeds of the Pleasant Hill Sunvalley
Golf Classic. The Pleasant Hill Library received a youth grant from the Foundation in fall 2011.
Books for beginning readers are in high demand among Pleasant Hill families, and the Library and its collections are
instrumental in helping children learn the basics of reading. Pleasant Hill community members checked out books for
beginning readers 19,000 times during the 2011-12 fiscal year, a 33% increase over the previous year. Beginning
readers are the most heavily used books in the Pleasant Hill Library’s collection: each book in the beginning reader
collection
