HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11132012 - C.31RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Librarian, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant consisting of materials from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association for the following libraries: Antioch Library, Bay Point Library, Dougherty Station Library, El Cerrito Library, and Pleasant Hill Library, for the period January 14, 2013 through December 31, 2013. FISCAL IMPACT: No library fund match. BACKGROUND: “Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys” provides an opportunity to bring the history, art and culture of Muslim traditions to communities in five library regions of Contra Costa County. The Bookshelf will be well received by the public who historically attend community programs that foster community and develop local identity. A similar NEH/ALA Bookshelf, “We the People,” was received in 2009. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The resources granted by NEH and ALA are only possible via this grant.
