HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11132012 - C.21RECOMMENDATION(S): ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 21199 to cancel one (1) vacant Principal Structural Engineer-BI (NCHA) (represented) position (#12836) at salary level ZA5 1962 ($7,249-$8,812) and add one (1) full-time Senior Structural Engineer (NEVB) (represented) at salary level ZA5 2011 ($7,610-$8,390) in the Department of Conservation and Development. FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact to the general fund. This add/cancel personnel transaction will generate annual cost savings of approximately $22,000. Of this amount, approximately $5,000 can be attributed to retirement cost savings. BACKGROUND: Early this year, the Department of Conservation and Development (DCD) lost a seasoned Principal Structural Engineer due to retirement. While this is a budgeted position, DCD held the position vacant for as long as possible to generate cost savings. However, over the next several months, DCD is projecting increased demand in engineering work from our three power plant projects (Marsh Landing, Oakley and Crockett Cogeneration). To respond to this higher demand, DCD would like to hire an engineer at the Senior level and eliminate the vacant, higher level Principal Engineer position. The department will use the existing Senior Structural Engineer lay-off list to fill this vacancy. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to add a position will impede the department's ability to meet the higher demand for engineering work. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
